About the Mountain View Ruritan Club
Mountain View Ruritan Club Celebrating 31 Years
July 15, 1976 - Mountain View Ruritan Club was chartered as Mount Herman Ruritan Club. On July 15, 2006, 66 members and guest joined together to celebrate 30 years of fellowship, goodwill and community service. Guest speaker was a former Ruritan member, Senator Hugh Webster, 24th District, who provided a State of the Union update for North Carolina and reminded us what Ruritan was all about. He thanked the club for 30 years of service to the community and encouraged everyone present to remember those in the community who were in need of our service, fellowship and friendship. Other guest included the District Governor Corky Camin, District Lieutenant Governor Paul Menard, District Secretary Judy Camin, Mr. and Mrs. Millard Thacker, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Outlaw, Ms. Phyllis Norris, Mr. Russell Steward, Zone 1 Co-Governor, Mr. Bernard Purvis, Zone 1 Co-Governor, and Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey Joyce. Kathryn Tingen, Club President and Senator Webster presented certificates to charter members Russell Isley, Gene Spoon, James A. Richardson and Jim Scarlett for 30 years of continuous membership. A memorial service for deceased members was held and family members present were presented a yellow rose in honor of their memory. Ron Reid, Vice President read a letter from Governor Easley congratulating the club on 30 years of service. The clubs 2006 scholarship winners were recognized as well as the winner of the clubs annual Patriotic Poster contest. The youngest member, Brian Reid and the oldest member, Frank Kizziah, did the honor of cutting the first piece of the cake to recognize the diversity of the club. At the August meeting, he presented an American Flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol to commemorate the anniversary.
